Book Week is always a great time to celebrate bringing books and readers and authors together, and I’d like to say a few special thank yous: to Beauty Point Primary – it was a special treat to have my grandson Will in the audience! And thanks for the great raspberry brownies and beautiful flowers, Carole!  To Seaforth Primary and their magician headmaster – such fun to be with all the pirates, princesses, and a host of other storybook characters from your Book Day Parade – it certainly added to the carnival atmosphere! And I look forward to seeing you all again this coming week.  And to St Patrick’s College out at beautiful Campbelltown, to Claire, Sue and Maureen and the students of Year 7 for the great author display and TLC after my ‘hike’ from the north!  Everyone has made me feel so welcome, and my congratulations to all the students for listening so attentively, and for asking such great questions.  It’s wonderful to see so much enthusiasm both for reading AND writing stories.  Finally, my congratulations to all the authors who were up for CBCA awards, the winners, the shortlisters, and also the notables – it’s always wonderful to have our hard work acknowledged in some way by our peers.  I’m looking forward to more talks and other exciting activities over the coming weeks.
