It’s been a busy week in the lead up to the school holidays with three school visits to talk about my book, The Little Penguins of Manly, to mark the start of Project Penguin run by Taronga Zoo and affiliated groups.  I was given a great reception at Manly West P/S, Manly Vale P/S and also Manly Selective (the latter the Year 9 high school students who will be mentoring the primary school students taking part in Project Penguin.)  A real (but dead and stuffed) penguin was the star of the show, with students wanting to stroke its soft feathers.  More schools at the beginning of next term, and it’s wonderful how the word is spreading about this unique mainland colony, the dangers these penguins face and the best ways to protect them. The surprise at the end was finding out that there’s a ‘wish list’ being comprised of gifts for the royal baby when the royal couple comes to visit Manly on Easter Friday – and my book is under consideration!bali cremation_0003  Fingers crossed that in time, the young prince will be able to read all about our little penguins, even if he doesn’t remember coming here!!
