Can this be anyone other than King Arthur commemorating his ‘birthplace’ at Tintagel? It’s a wonderful depiction, very atmospheric, although the statute has raised a storm of controversy since its unveiling earlier this year. As an Arthurian tragic, I think it’s great that the most famous of all legendary characters to be associated with Tintagel should be commemorated in this way. (The castle ruins, by the way, are the remains of a medieval castle built by the Earl of Cornwall, himself inspired by the legend of King Arthur.) Long live the once and future king!
