A busy week with lots of good things happening

I’m having a really writing-focused week with my wonderful Waratahs writing friends on Monday for our usual critique session. Tuesday was spent up on the Central Coast with a ‘Ghost Boy’ presentation to the lovely students of the Book Club at Mary Mackillop College at the invitation of their inspirational librarian Bronwyn Sandeman (thank you Bronwyn!) That was followed by a workshop at Toukley Library on ‘making good writing even better’ with a terrific group, including a few HSC students. Had to whistle through the programme at great speed, so unfortunately no time left for anyone to share their writing, but I did hear some interesting stories around the room as we went along. So that was very rewarding. Today was the Society of Women Writers lunch at the State Library with guest speaker Sue Turnbull (pictured) talking about women in crime fiction. It was a fabulous session, so interesting, and touching on a number of my favourite crime-writing authors including Dorothy Sayers, P.G. James, Agatha Christie and Minette Walters, amongst others – the theme being domestic violence and how women have been writing about it since the 19th century.  And tomorrow is a committee meeting for the Plantagenet Society – always interesting plus enjoyable catching up with friends at the same time.
