I attended a fabulous event last night, truly an evening of inspiration and delight. Hosted by the wonderful (and indefatiguable) Paul and Beth Macdonald, owners of The Children’s Bookshop, who do so much to promote, foster and encourage reading and writing in NSW, the function was held to celebrate the new Children’s Library and creative learning space within the State Library. I was blown away by the huge collection of artefacts and documents held by the library, some of which we saw on an engaging powerpoint display produced by Megan Perry, Manager of Learning Services. This was followed by a tour of some of the new galleries, with knowledgeable guides who kept us thoroughly entertained with stories of some of the treasures on display (see below, with dress-up opportunities for kids!) My thanks to the Children’s Bookshop and the State Library for a great evening.

Also kept busy preparing and presenting a couple of fun sessions on finding ideas for writing stories at Mosman High recently. We covered ideas and writing tips for many different genres, including writing fantasy and sci-fi, crime and historical fiction. My aim was for students to leave with their heads swarming with ideas, and the confidence to translate them onto the page (or screen!)

What if … you had a magic lamp to make all your wishes come true?
