Calling all Sydney-siders interested in reading and/or writing historical fiction: Elisabeth Storrs will be talking about Art, Inspiration and Historical Fiction: A Tuscan Odyssey at the Society of Women Writers Lunch on Wednesday 8th November at the State Library, Macquarie St, details below. Beautiful Tuscany was once the heartland of the Etruscans and the location of the struggle for supremacy between Rome and Etruria. It was the finding of a carving on an ancient Etruscan sarcophagus that inspired Elisabeth to write her best-selling Tales of Ancient Rome saga: The Wedding Shroud, The Golden Dice and Call to Juno. In her workshop beforehand, titled The Telling Detail: Transforming Historical Research into Imagery, Elisabeth will guide participants into identifying those telling details that give depth to characters, evoke the senses and instil a sense of place through a judicious management of their research resources. Bookings essential (before 10 a.m. Monday.) swwlunchbooking@gmail.com. Members: lunch & workshop $65; workshop $30; lunch $42.
