The action-packed and very topical new novel by Cindy Davies, titled The Afghan Wife, was launched at Manly Art Gallery on Saturday. It was a fun and festive occasion, illustrated by a fascinating series of scenes portraying the location of the novel (primarily in Iran) which can be viewed on Cindy’s website: www.cindydavies.com.au.  The novel was launched by Susannah Fullerton, whom many of you will know as the President of the Jane Austen Society and also author of the wonderful newsletter, Notes from a Book Addict. The Afghan Wife is set against the background of the 1979 revolution in Iran. Zahra, her husband Mahmoud, their son Ahmad, and Zara’s cousin, Firzun, are refugees from Afghanistan but are caught up in the revolution and what follows is a heart-stopping fight for survival.  The novel is published by Odyssey Books, and publisher Michelle is pictured here with Cindy, along with the cover of Cindy’s new book.  I’m really excited for Cindy as she is a member of the Waratahs, our local writing group, and we have been following the fortunes of Zahra and her family, as well as the love of her life, Karim – who is NOT her husband – for quite a time!
