Wonderful choral concert in the atmospheric Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel at St Patricks in Manly on Sunday, listening to Sydney Philharmonia Chamber Singers with a programme including Durufle, Frank Martin, Einojuhani Rautavaara, and ending with the sublime Song for Athene by John Tavener. That long-drawn out Alleluia at the beginning of each line is haunting my days and my dreams! So beautiful; it’s based on Horatio’s speech to the dying Hamlet ‘… flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.’ Very moving. I gather it was sung at Princess Diana’s funeral. If you want to check it out, I’ve found it on YouTube – I think the Kings College Cambridge choir sing it best.
