So happy to be part of the inaugural Bangalay Festival, and I’m looking forward to my second session with Years 9 and 10 students from Chatswood High, Forest High and other local schools this coming Friday. I was so impressed with the students at my first workshop, how enthusiastically they tackled the various writing exercises I gave them, and how creative they were in their responses, so I can’t wait to see what they’ll come up with on Friday! This time we’ll be doing some more work on characters. After that, and using extracts from my novel A Ring Through Time as examples, we’ll look at ‘the writer’s craft’: choosing tense and voice, setting the scene, the story arc and, most important, choosing the central character who will carry their story.
